Gottman Method Couples Therapy

At Thrive Postpartum, Couples and Family, we leverage structured and action-oriented techniques based on John Gottman’s more than 40 years of experience analyzing the relationships of over 3,000 couples.

Using this research-driven approach, couples quickly gain insights into their partner and begin rebuilding a loving bond. Let us teach and empower you and your significant other to manage conflict, work through betrayals, gain tools to repair old hurts and build shared dreams for your future.

You don’t find “happily ever after.” You create it.

Common Challenges for couples

  • Persistent unresolved conflict and/or misunderstanding

  • Loneliness / lack of physical or emotional intimacy

  • Difficulty adjusting after baby

  • Loss of trust after an infidelity

  • Contemplating separation or divorce

We can guide you through the steps of creating a more fulfilled, deep and lasting relationship with your partner.

About Gottman Method couples Therapy

We’ll get started by doing a little research about your relationship so that we can take a customized approach in your sessions. Using a confidential and HIPAA compliant online tool, you and your spouse will answer questions across a variety of dimensions.

The assessment also addresses:

  • Parenting

  • Housework

  • Finances

  • Trust

  • Individual areas of concern

Core questions cover:

  • Friendship and intimacy in your relationship

  • How well you know your partner

  • How you manage emotions and conflict

  • Your shared values and goals

  • What drives meaning in your life

The Gottman Relationship Checkup includes 480 questions and the time it takes to complete varies. On average, clients report investing about two hours time.

How it works

  1. Accept your online invitation

Your therapist will send each of you a separate email inviting you to The Gottman Relationship Checkup.

  2. Create a private profile

Once you have accepted the email invitation to join The Gottman Relationship Checkup, you and your partner will each create individual, separate profiles.

  3. Complete the questionnaire

You and your partner can each complete your own questionnaire privately and at your convenience. In order to preserve the integrity and accuracy of the tool, you are encouraged not to share your responses with one another.

When you have both completed your individual questionnaires, your therapist will be notified
and will be able to securely log in to review your scores and the analysis of your relationship. Your therapist will be able to discuss the results and create a customized plan for strengthening your relationship.
