About Rachel

Depending on client needs, Rachel employs a personally tailored blend of counseling techniques.

Certified Perinatal Mental Heath Specialist: Rachel has extensive post-graduate training in the assessment and treatment of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs).

Art Therapy is a proven and creative processing technique due to its effectiveness in encouraging a sense of empowerment as well as building self awareness, identity and healthy coping strategies even with the youngest of clients. Making art can act as a "second language" when words are difficult to articulate.

Adlerian and Cognitive Behavior Therapy are two additional techniques that Rachel often uses to help clients identify and overcome their challenges by creating effective strategies to reach their goals and mental wellbeing.

Rachel works closely with clients of all ages to address challenges including:

  • Mother-infant bonding

  • Behavioral issues

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Survivors of domestic violence

  • Life change (including divorce)

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Pregnancy and postpartum related mood disorders

Rachel Ackerman holds a Master’s degree in counseling and Art Therapy from Adler University in Chicago.
